Tessellation is the art of tiling a surface using geometric shapes. In collaboration with my colleague Dina Al Khatib, we set out to create an animation where each shape continues to create a pattern when they are layered on top of one another. The shapes in this animation are inspired by the Arabic Mashrabiya, a projecting window or balcony enclosed with latticework. The Mashrabiya is an element of traditional Arabic architecture used since the Middle Ages.
